We offer a truly different approach to school. Supported by the latest in technology and cognitive science, we move beyond the traditional tools of lectures, homework, high-stakes tests, and grades. At Greenfields, our students learn in collaborative classrooms of multi-age learners. Our flexible approach challenges each student with their own differentiated learning plan and inspires them through real-world projects and experiences. We ask each student to: Stay Curious, Challenge Yourself, and Make a Difference.
Children are born with a curiosity that drives them to understand the world around them. They learn to eat, walk, and talk through observation, trial and error. It’s important that school cultivates this and makes room for this experiential learning. Daily choice time allows younger students to explore their interests, while older students dive deep into passion projects, internships and apprenticeships. Discovery Days and real-world projects expose all students to new topics. They use these opportunities to discover their gifts and passions that help them find their calling.
Staying curious is key to being a lifelong learner. Our program is flexible enough to allow students of all ages to incorporate their interests into their studies and with no assigned homework, students have plenty of time after school to immerse themselves in activities that interest them.
We replace external motivators like high-stakes test scores and grades with an intrinsic growth mindset. Students work with a guide to differentiate their core curriculum and progress at their own pace. This adaptive approach keeps students in their challenge zone. A blend of hands-on and online tools are employed to help them develop their reading, writing, and math skills. Students who quickly master the material are free to race ahead while those that need more time have it. They showcase their mastery by meeting their goals, earning badges, assembling portfolios and taking part in public exhibitions of their work.
Challenging yourself is at the core of a happy and productive life. Developing a growth mindset means that our students are constantly looking for challenges to tackle and problems to solve.
The Greenfields experience immerses students in real-life situations in ways that allow them to build the social, emotional, and executive skills needed to make a difference in the world. Whether it’s suggesting new rules in School Improvement Meeting, holding a friend accountable during group work, leading a studio maintenance team or reflecting on missing their math goal, students are constantly exercising and honing life skills.
Strengthening their inner core as human beings, our students gain the self-confidence needed to be engaged citizens making a meaningful difference in the world.
